Volunteers

Want to share your time or talents with some amazing children? Then we have many opportunities for you to get involved at the center. Our volunteer activities with the patients include crafts, art and garden projects, dance parties, water games and special events.

We have individual and groups opportunities that are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekend opportunities for groups. Internships are also available throughout the school year.

Our current opportunities include:

Therapy

Times and days: Throughout the week

Activity: Individuals can volunteer or observe in the therapy departments. With observation, students are paired with a therapist in your chosen discipline. As a volunteer, you can assist the therapy departments with setup of therapy sessions, assist with therapy groups or help with clerical work.

Physical therapy: Observation and volunteer hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

Occupational therapy: Observation hours are Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. (Summer hours exclude Fridays). Due to a high volume of requests, students are asked to limit requests to no more than four times. Speech-language pathology: For observation opportunities, contact Cara Taylor, director of speech-language pathology, at ctaylor@jdmc.org or 405-307-2850.

Clerical/administrative

Times and days: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Activity: Individuals can help with light clerical duties including filing, word processing, answering phones, paperwork and special projects.

Recreational activities

Times and days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Group volunteer opportunities are also on the same days and times.

Activity: Individuals or groups can read to patients, host carnivals or dance parties or play on the playground with the kids, etc. We also are looking for volunteers interested in assisting at Camp ClapHans, the center’s summer camp.  (link to camp page)

School

Times and days: Monday through Friday from 9 to 11a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

Activity: Individuals can assist school teachers by helping patients with classroom work.

Sewing projects

Volunteers who have the ability to sew can help the center through a variety of projects. If you or your sewing group is interested, please contact Jennifer Giamelle.
