Our volunteer opportunities are in various departments around the hospital. There are generally no direct patient contact volunteer opportunities. One exception to this is in recreational activities from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Thursday.

All of our volunteer opportunities are on an as needed basis.

Volunteer Application Process:

The process to become a volunteer at the McCarty Center is as follows:

1) Complete a volunteer application form. An application and volunteer handbook may be picked up at the reception desk at the hospital Monday thru Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. or by downloading to your computer from the Volunteer Application link above. Read the handbook and sign and date the last page of the handbook.

2) Individual volunteers who will be working in departments where they may be working directly or indirectly with patients will undergo a criminal background check before starting their volunteer duties.

3) You'll need to have a TB skin test and bring the results with your application. You can get a TB skin test from your family physician or, if you're an OU student, from the Goddard Health Center. This process takes 3-days from the time you get your injection until you have to go back and have the injection site read.

4) You'll need a copy of your shot records to be submitted with your volunteer application form.

5) You'll need to complete an on-line HIPAA orientation. HIPAA is the federal patient privacy act. You can do the orientation here at the hospital. The HIPAA orientation takes approximately two hours.

6) Once these first five items are completed, you'll meet with the volunteer coordinator for the completion of your orientation and volunteer assignment. At this time you should have your completed application form, your signed volunteer handbook, the results of your TB skin test, your shot records and your certificate of completion of the HIPAA orientation ready to submit to the volunteer coordinator.
